The website was down and has been updated by Don. I am learning how to operate it myself. So this is the first page of the News.The March 2011 Israel workshop had been postponed because of my own personal affairs at home which required my presence. I apologize to all my friends and students in Israel. For the last sixteen years I have been coming every year and this year I have to take a break but I will be back next Spring in 2012.

 

Potluck on Saturday, 9/11/10

We had another September Saturday Potluck yesterday where many of us met after practice, had some food, drink, laughs, friendships, and good time. We do it once a year usually on the first or second Saturday in September since 1979 after I took up residence just before Christmas in 1978. I don’t think I have missed any for them with the exception of 1978 because I was still living in San Francisco in September. Most of the time the day after our potluck there will be the Solano Stroll on Sunday and I really love that double celebration. Most of my friends and students ask me whether the pot luck is for my birthday because I always have my children and now my grandson too for the last six years come to join us. In the past I always avoided the answer but this year I just said ‘yes’. What is the difference. When I first came to stay in Berkeley I was barely forty-one and I thought I was old so I kept the age to myself. Today I am seventy-three and I am actually proud of getting to that age. The thing I like most about the potluck is that I can share the big tree,  the two picnic tables, and the four benches at the corner of the small park opposite to my house. They are my faithful companions for the last thirty some years on a daily basis. I practice, meditate, rest, and share myself with my students and friends there. There I have my moments of exaltation and sorrow,  joy and sadness, clarity and confusion. There I learn how to stand like a tree.   (to be continued)

Sept. 18, 2010. 10:30AM Sat. Pt. Rye Workshop

There will be no practice at Berkeley Park today. We will be in Pt. Rye.Our Saturday Practice will take place at the Dance Palace Community Center, 5th & B Street,  Pt. Rye Station. Those who want to carpool with us should be in the park at 9:00 am.

 

Saturday, September 11, 2010. Pot Luck at 1:00PM

This is our Fall Pot Luck for the 33rd time since 1978. Every student and friend are welcome to our practice park in front of my house at the corner of  Tacoma /Encenada just bring yourself and if convenient bring a dish or two to share at 1:00PM after our Saturday Practice. We will also show some of the old VHS and DVD so you may see yourselves or your friends in the past years.

I have just arrived Salt Lake City. The first thing I do is to learn how to write my blog with the help of Don, who had helped me last year but I had forgotten it as soon as I left SLC. This time I want to make sure that I can write on my own after the lesson.

First of all I want to express my thanks and happiness to all who had come from far away to participate our January Retreat at Santa Sabina, San Rafael, California. It is a great joy for me to share with you my humble experience in my practice and you your eagerness to learn and sharing of yourselves. Those experiences enrich our lives warm our hearts and enlighten our minds. Thank you for your coming.Your T-shirts have been ordered and will soon be ready. The reason it took such a long time is that I had not been able to find our T-shirts maker, Susan, for some time. I had my hard drive crashed if you remember. Finally she got the order and promised that the shirts will be ready shortly. Anyone who will not see me either in class or workshop this year please send me your address so that I can mail it to you.

This year we went to have our New Year Lunch at Kingshin Restaurant instead of having Potluck like the last 32 years when I came to stay in Berkeley in 1978.  I feel the good energy of the Year of the Tiger and have made some good resolution. The first one is that we will move our Berkeley evening practice to a NEW place on 813 San Pablo Ave, which is located between Solano and Washington and right behind the Royal Cafe. There is a parking lot in front of the place and I will put poster of myself on the window so that my students can find the new place.The Open House of the new ICI Center will on on March 1, 2010 at 7:00PM. I urge all my students to come.
